Theft of Motor Vehicle in Rantoul
November 25, 2019
On Sunday, November 17, 2019 at approximately 2:36 P.M., a 2012 Ford Edge was stolen from the 800 block of N. Maplewood Drive in Rantoul. The vehicle was left running and unattended in the driveway of the residence. Upon exiting the residence a few minutes later, the owner discovered the vehicle missing. The
vehicle was recovered in Champaign on November 18, 2019 after being involved in a hit and run accident. There is no suspect information at this time.
Law enforcement is reminding citizens to not leave their vehicles running and unattended, as there have been multiple incidents of vehicles being stolen while left running to warm up.

November 12, 2019
On September 15, 2019 at approximately 9:30 a.m., a female suspect stole merchandise from Menards, located at 620 W. Town Center Boulevard in Champaign. The female was observed concealing several types of copper
wire in her purse and leaving the store without paying for it. The copper wire was valued at over $900.00.
The suspect was described as a white female with brown hair, 45-55 years old with a medium build. She was last seen wearing a gray shirt, dark pants and carrying a large purse. The female arrived with a male in a dark colored Ford Explorer with driver’s side front end damage.
Criminal Damage and Attempted Burglary in the City of Champaign
November 04, 2019
On October 26, 2019 at approximately 9:56 a.m., two males broke into a display case at Walmart, located at 2610 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign, and attempted to steal electronic game consoles. The males started toward the exits with the merchandise but left the cart behind and fled when approached by management. The game consoles were valued at over $3,000.00.
The two suspects were both black males, 26 to 32 years of age. The first male was wearing a black hat, black and blue jacket, and dark pants. The second was wearing a camo hat, black hoodie, an orange reflective vest, and dark pants. It’s believed the males fled the area in a black over tan SUV, similar in style to an Oldsmobile Bravada.
Armed Robery in the City of Champaign

On October 15, 2019 at approximately 10:25 a.m., a male suspect attempted to steal a victim’s purse as she exited her vehicle in the parking lot of Schnucks, located at 109 N. Mattis Avenue in Champaign. The suspect began punching the victim in the face and also punched a second victim who tried to help.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5’9 to 6’0 tall, 190 lbs., and between 40-50 years old. He was last seen wearing a black White Sox hat, black jacket and dark jeans with white on the pockets.
Fraudulent use of Debit Cards in Urbana and Rantoul
October 21, 2019
In the late evening hours of Thursday, October 10th, a victim inadvertently lost his wallet. Within minutes after his last legitimate purchase, numerous unauthorized purchases were made at gas/convenience stores in Urbana
and Rantoul totaling over $1,500.00. The suspects purchased gas, food items, cell phone cards, scratch off lottery tickets, alcohol and cigarettes.
There were five suspects described as being in their late 20’s to early-mid 40’s, with the following descriptions.
Male #1 – is a black male, 6’0, 200 lbs., wearing a gray Nike sweat suit.
Male #2 – is a black male, 5’6, 140 lbs., wearing a red sweatshirt and black pants.
Female #1 – is a black female, 5’2, 130 lbs., wearing a black shirt and distressed blue jeans.
Female #2 – is a black female, 5’10, 200 lbs., wearing a light blue and white Nike track suit bearing her midriff.
Female #3 – is a black female, 5’5, 165 lbs., wearing a dark Adidas tracksuit.
Male #1 signed all of the receipts with the alias ‘Richard Smith’.
The five suspects were connected to three vehicles, a gray or taupe Toyota Highlander, a blue Ford Edge and a Ford Fusion.

On June 6 and July 2, 2019, a female suspect entered Mosser’s Shoes at 6 Convenience Center Road in Champaign and stole merchandise. The suspect stole a variety of product from wallets, shoes, backpacks and duffle bags, the total value between $500 and $1,200.00.
The suspect was described as a white female with blond hair, 5’5” and 150 lbs. She was seen wearing the same outfit on both dates, a black shirt with FOX on the front and blue jean shorts. She left the area in a black Chrysler Town & Country van.

On September 27, 2019 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a male suspect stole a necklace from Macy’s at Market Place Mall, 2000 N. Neil Street in Champaign. The male suspect entered the store and asked to see a diamond necklace on display. An employee removed the necklace from the display case and handed it to the suspect. The suspect fled the store with the necklace in hand. The diamond necklace was valued at $9000.00.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male, 5’09”, 175 lbs., wearing a black hat, gray with white zip-up sweatshirt and jeans. The male was believed to have left the parking lot in a gray Honda CRV.

On July 7, July 16, and July 20 of 2019, a white male driving a maroon vehicle pumped gas at the Mach 1 gas station, located at 902 Bloomington Road in Champaign, then left without paying. The total retail theft at this
time is over $100.00.
The suspect is a white male, 20 to 35 years of age, with short hair and a thin beard. The photos show the male wearing a white shirt with orange shorts during the first retail theft, a white shirt with dark pants at the second,
and not shown, but he wore a black shirt with unknown pants during the third retail theft.

September 23, 2019
On July 11, 2019 around 1:00 a.m., a smash and grab burglary took place at T-Mobile located at 2504 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign. A suspect(s) made entry to the business by smashing the front door glass then fleeing with numerous cellphones and watches.
On July 12, 2019 at 7:57 p.m., a second burglary took place at the same T-Mobile location. Two male suspects entered the store, looked at cellphones then each ran out the door carrying a cellphone. In total, the loss of merchandise was valued at over $7,600.00, not including the repair to the glass door.
One suspect was a taller black male with a heavier build, and had long dreads held back in a ponytail. He was wearing a black baseball cap, white t-shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect was a shorter black male, average build, with short black hair. He was wearing a red Nike t-shirt and distressed blue jeans.

include Champaign County. The suspects forced entry into the homes and stole jewelry, money and other small items of value. The suspects may be knocking on the doors to see if anyone is home prior to breaking-in.
The suspects are described as a white male with brown hair and white female with brown hair, possibly in her 30’s. The suspects are known to drive a dark colored Chevrolet Impala, approximate model year 2010.

On July 29, 2019 at approximately 7:11 p.m., three suspects stole close to $3,000.00 in merchandise from Walmart, located at 2610 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The suspects distracted employees while they checked out and made it look as though payment was made. Some merchandise was returned for cash at another Walmart outside of Champaign County.
The suspects were described as three black females in their 20’s. The first was last seen wearing a black shower cap, shirt, and pants. The second was wearing a blue denim hat, black/white striped shirt, and black shorts, and the third a white hat, blue jacket and blue jeans.

On Friday, August 23, 2019 at approximately 5:12 a.m., an unknown suspect forced entry into an exterior storage shed at Walmart, located at 845 Broadmeadow Rd., Rantoul. The suspect removed approximately twenty (20) used auto batteries and loaded them into his vehicle before leaving the scene. The suspect vehicle is described as a white, older-model van. There is no description of the suspect.

Between May and August 2019, numerous Chromebooks, iPads, and ThinkPad’s were stolen from a classroom trailer at Franklin Middle School, located at 817 Harris Avenue in Champaign. A second burglary occurred on August 21, 2019 and additional Chromebooks and laptops were stolen from the same classroom trailer. In total, the stolen computers are valued at over $22,000.00.
Burglary in the Village of Mahomet
August 19, 2019
On August 6, 2019 officers responded to the 800-block of Cole Lane in Mahomet for a burglary. It was reported, during the overnight hours of August 5, 2019, an unknown subject(s) entered a house under construction and removed numerous items. Among the stolen items were approximately 1500 feet of copper wire, copper pipe and a water heater.
Deceptive Practices in the City of Champaign
August 12, 2019
On July 17, 2019 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a male entered Busey Bank, located at 100 W. University Ave. in Champaign, and attempted to cash a fraudulent check. This male is the same suspect involved in at least two other incidents that occurred at local Busey Bank locations and at additional banks throughout the area.
The suspect was a white male, 30-35 years of age, last seen wearing a bright neon colored work vest, white t- shirt, dusty/rusty colored jeans, and long hair. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the subject who was captured on video.

August 05, 2019
On Friday, July 19, 2019, police officers received two theft reports involving the same suspect. At approximately 5:30 a.m., an individual stole a trailer from the driveway of a residence in the 500 block of West Church St. in Savoy. The trailer was hooked up to the back of a vehicle and removed from the property. At 5:40
a.m., the same subject used the stolen trailer to steal an Ariens brand 42-inch riding lawn mower from a property in the 4400 block of South Mattis Ave. in Champaign.
The subject was described as a white male, skinny, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a dark hat, blue jeans, and work style boots. The subject’s vehicle was described as a larger sized dark colored SUV. One witness described the truck as having a “badge” or similar decal underneath a rear window. Security video was obtained from the area showing the suspect and vehicle.

July 29, 2019
On July 5, 2019 at approximately 2:01 a.m., police officers responded to the Rose Bowl Tavern located at 106 North Race Street in Urbana for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived shortly after the call and located a broken window on the south side of the business. Officers searched the business and found no one inside. The offender damaged numerous cases of beer, various bottles of alcohol, two cash registers, a television, a coffee maker, and an advertising decal. The offender stole approximately $50 dollars in cash.
Officers were able to obtain video footage of this incident. Based on the video footage, the offender is a black male, approximately 5’10”- 6 feet tall with 2 to 3-inch-long dreadlock style braids. The offender weighs between 165-175 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jean pants with white spots. He was also wearing gray and white high-top style shoes.

On July 14, 2019 around 10:20 a.m., a female suspect entered the Family Dollar located at 1204 N. Market St. in Champaign brandishing a firearm. The suspect pointed the firearm at the clerk and demanded money. Becoming impatient, the suspect yelled, “You’re taking too long!” and fired one round into the wall. No one was injured during the robbery.
The suspect was described as a black female, 24-25 years of age, 5’02” to 5’06” tall with a dark complexion and short hair. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue bandana over her face, a black Puma hooded sweatshirt, and white/black basketball type shorts. The female may have fled the area in a white Prius style vehicle.
Theft and Credit Card Fraud in the City of Champaign
July 15, 2019
On July 9, 2019 at 3:05 p.m. officers responded to a theft at Aldi’s, located at 801 W. Interstate Drive in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers learned an elderly customer had her purse stolen from her shopping cart. The customer reported being distracted by a male asking questions, and when she turned back around her purse was gone. Credit cards from the purse were later used at Walgreens in Mahomet for purchases of over $1,000.00.
The suspect who stole the purse was captured on video. She appeared to be an older black female with gray hair, 5-foot-tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue jacket and pants with a black shirt. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect who was captured on video.
Burglaries to Motor Vehicles in Champaign

Sometime between June 25, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. and June 26, 2019 at 9:15 a.m., several vehicle burglaries occurred in northeast Champaign, many from the Ashland Park Subdivision. Mainly items of monetary value have been stolen such as cell phones, computers, CD’s, headphones, wallets and cash which were left in the unlocked vehicles.
A person of interest was caught on camera checking for unlocked vehicle doors. The subject appears to be a darker-skinned male wearing a white hat, gray jacket, dark pants, and black shoes. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the subject who was captured on video.
