Theft/ Credit Card Fraud in the City of Champaign - 3-8-21
March 08, 2021

On February 5, 2021, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., an unknown male stole a wallet from a shopping cart at Meijer on North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Officers responded and learned one of the victim’s credit cards was used at the Champaign Target shortly after the theft. The credit card was used to purchase gift cards and other merchandise totaling over $1,700.00.
 
Surveillance video captured the suspect at Target, who appeared to be a white male, 5’10” weighing approximately 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue/gray stocking cap, tie dye mask, brown coat, blue shirt, and jeans.

Theft in the City of Champaign - 2-15-21
February 15, 2021

On Saturday, February 6, 2021 at approximately 2:38 p.m., police officers responded to the 1300-block of West Church Street in Champaign for a theft. An elderly couple met the suspect, who had agreed to purchase their iPhone 11 via Facebook. The suspect asked to look at the phone prior to making payment then fled the scene with the phone. The phone was valued at over $500.00.
 
The offender was captured on surveillance video. He appears to be a black male with short dreads, approximately 5’10” tall, 150 pounds, and was last seen wearing a navy blue Under Armour jacket and jeans.

Theft in the city of Champaign - 2-1-21
February 01, 2021

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at approximately 4:05 p.m., police officers responded to Verizon, 2116 South Neil Street in Champaign, for a theft.
 
A male entered the Verizon store and stole a blue Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max from the display counter while the employee was distracted. The offender ran out of the store and fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Malibu with an unknown Illinois license plate.
 
The offender was captured on surveillance video. He appears to be a black male, in his twenties, approximately 5’06” tall, skinny build, last seen wearing a black face mask, blue hoody, black printed lounge pants and black slides.

Burglary in the city of Champaign - 1/25/21
January 25, 2021

On Monday, January 18th, 2021 at approximately 08:36 a.m., police officers responded to The Upper Bout, 723 South Neil Street in Champaign, for a burglary.
 
A subject was captured on video breaking the main entrance door to the building to gain access. While in the building the subject damaged property and stole an item of clothing. The business sustained approximately $1500 in damages.
 
The suspect was last seen wearing black pants, white tennis shoes, a camouflage jacket with the hood up and a white mask.

Theft and Deceptive Practices in the City of Champaign - 1-19-21
January 19, 2021

On August 29, 2020, at approximately 1:36 p.m., police officers were dispatched to a theft at Meijer, 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Officers learned a female’s wallet was stolen and her credit card was used at two other stores in the North Prospect Avenue area. While at Sam’s Club suspects charged $2,064.80 in merchandise and at Walmart, they attempted to charge almost $1,000.00 but were unsuccessful.
 
Surveillance video captured the three suspects who appeared to be an older black female with curly hair, a younger black female with longer braids and a lighter dyed area on top, and an older black male.

Homicide in the City of Champaign - 1-11-21
January 11, 2021

On December 28, 2020, at approximately 4:46 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 36-year-old female victim inside of a vehicle suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
 
Investigators are actively investigating all leads and seeking any information in relation to this case. Police are asking anyone in the involved neighborhood with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after the incident.


Arson in the Village of Penfield - 1-4-21
January 04, 2021

On Sunday, December 20th, 2020 at approximately 2:35 a.m., Deputies responded to Main Street in the Village of Penfield for reports of multiple fires. Deputies learned unknown subject(s) started three separate fires.
 
One of the fires was set in a residential garage and fully engulfed the structure, which contained the resident’s vehicle, snow blower, kayaks, and other tools. The second fire was in a trash bin behind a community building, owned by a local church. The third fire was in a trash barrel inside of the U.S. Post Office, causing minor damage to the inside of the building.


Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property in the City of Champaign - 12-21-20
December 21, 2020

Between Friday, December 4, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 1:00 a.m., unknown person(s) forced entry into the leasing office for EEG Management, located at 1806 West William Street in Champaign. Upon entry, a company credit card, keys, packages, and numerous pieces of computer equipment were stolen. The credit card was later used at a Circle K gas station and at Piccadilly Liquors.
 
Surveillance video of the incident was obtained from the gas station. The suspect appears to be a black male wearing a black hooded jacket, light-colored face mask and black/white shoes.

Homicide in the City of Champaign - 12-7-20
December 07, 2020

On November 13, 2020, at approximately 3:22 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 300 block of East Hill Street following the report of an individual believed to be deceased inside of a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the report and located a 30-year-old male inside of a motor vehicle who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
 
Investigators are actively investigating all leads and seeking any information in relation to this case. Police are asking anyone in the involved neighborhood with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after the incident.


Armed Robbery in the City of Urbana - 11-30-20
November 30, 2020

On November 8, 2020, at approximately 1:52 AM, police officers were dispatched to Casey’s General Store, located at 2100 East University Avenue in Urbana, for an armed robbery. Investigators learned two males entered the store at approximately 1:48 AM. Upon entry, one of the males displayed a handgun, pointed it at an employee and ordered them to open the cash registers and fill a plastic bag with cash. The offenders took the bag of cash from the employee and fled on foot. Both offenders were seen running southeast from the store.
 
Additional surveillance footage from cameras in the area showed the offenders running east in the 2100 block of East University Avenue and then north on Dale Lane toward the Woodland Acres mobile home community.
 
The armed offender was described as a tall, thin black male, twenty to thirty years of age. He wore a black, white, and gray matching sweat suit and a black mask. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. The other offender was described as an older black male wearing a black and white Adidas hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a blue facemask.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in Rantoul - 11-23-20
November 23, 2020

On Thursday, November 12, 2020 at approximately 9:48 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Autumn Fields Lane, Rantoul, for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers located multiple residences and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. Investigation showed that there were at least two subjects shooting at each other. Several items of evidence were collected on scene, including shell casings and fired projectiles. There were no reported injuries.

Armed Robbery in the City of Champaign - 11-16-20
November 16, 2020

On November 7, 2020, at approximately 12:25 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the Circle K convenience store, located at 3602 North Mattis Avenue in Champaign, and approached the clerk. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the money from the cash drawer. The suspect fled the store in a silver SUV, possibly a Volvo, with an undisclosed amount of currency.
 
The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5’08”, approximately 140 pounds, last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jeans, and a black surgical mask.

Homicide in the City of Champaign - 11-9-20
November 09, 2020

On October 8, 2020, at approximately 2:06 a.m., police officers responded to the 3000 block of West William Street in Champaign for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 29-year-old male lying in the middle of the roadway, suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
 
Investigators are actively investigating all leads and seeking any information in relation to this case. Police are asking anyone in the involved neighborhood with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after the incident.

On Sunday, May 31, 2020 during the riot/looting in Champaign, unknown person(s) forced entry into the TJ Maxx store, located at 21 East Marketview Drive, and stole approximately $76,790 worth of merchandise. Damage to windows and display cases totaled more than $8,000.00. Investigators are seeking assistance with identifying some of the individuals responsible, who were captured on surveillance cameras coming out of the store. I

Debit Card Fraud in Champaign - Urbana - 10-26-20
October 26, 2020

Between Sunday, September 6, 2020 and Thursday, September 10, 2020, an unknown suspect made unauthorized purchases with the victim’s lost debit card. The suspect made numerous purchases at various stores within the Champaign-Urbana area totaling over $2,400.00.
 
Surveillance video captured the suspect using the debit card at one of the stores. The suspect appeared to be a black male with a thin build and long afro-textured hair. He was wearing a black mask, black shirt with an unknown graphic on the front, and black pants.

Shooting Investigation in the City of Urbana - 10-19-20
October 19, 2020

On October 7, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police officers responded to the 1400 block of Beardsley Avenue in Urbana for the report of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located a male juvenile with multiple gunshot wounds. The juvenile was transported to Carle Hospital for treatment and is still recovering. A male wearing all black was seen running from the area and entered the passenger side of a silver 4-door sedan that sped away. The identity of the offender and the driver of the silver 4-door sedan are both unknown.

Aggravated Discharge of a Fire Arm in the Village of Rantoul - 10-12-20
October 12, 2020

On Sunday, September 27, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m., police officers were in the 900 block of Klein Avenue when they heard numerous gun shots. Dispatch started receiving calls of gun shots being fired around Congress Avenue and Century Boulevard. Officers responded to the area and found spent shell casings and fired projectiles in the 300-400 block of East Congress Avenue. A victim came forward and told officers his vehicle was struck by gunfire. There were no reported injuries. A gray vehicle was reported to be in the area when the shots were fired, but there was no suspect information available.

Hit and Run Traffic Crash in the City of Champaign - 10-5-20
October 05, 2020

On September 22, 2020, at 8:57 p.m., police officers responded to the intersection of Mattis Avenue and Bradley Avenue in Champaign for a hit and run traffic crash. Officers learned the suspect vehicle pulled out of the Conoco parking lot, located at 1202 North Mattis Avenue, and struck the victim’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled southbound on Mattis Avenue. 
 
The suspect vehicle was described as a dark colored sedan, possibly a Toyota. The suspect vehicle should have front end damage. The driver was captured on video at the Conoco gas station prior to the traffic crash. The driver is described as a white male, thin build, crew cut hairstyle. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, khaki cargo shorts, dark socks, and Nike basketball shoes.

Attempted Burglary in the City of Champaign - 9-28-20
September 28, 2020

Between Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 10:57 p.m. and Thursday, September 10, 2020, at 1:13 a.m., a male attempted to gain access to an ATM at Heartland Bank, located at 2101 West Springfield Avenue in Champaign, causing $500 damage to the machine. Surveillance video showed two males arrived at the bank in an older maroon sedan. The driver remained in the vehicle, as the passenger exited and attempted to pry open the ATM.
 
Both suspects appeared to be black males. The passenger had a short beard, medium length hair and a thin build. He was wearing a black hat with Chicago printed in white lettering, a dark shirt, dark pants, and a light- blue surgical mask. There was no clothing description for the driver. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects.

Retail Theft in the City of Champaign - 9-21-20
September 21, 2020

On September 12, 2020, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police officers responded to Walmart, located at 2610 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign, for a retail theft. Upon arrival, officers learned two males stole over $14,000 worth of electronics. One of the males posed as a vendor to gain access to an electronics storage
locker. The males filled a backpack with merchandise from the locker and then left in a white 2020 Volkswagen Arteon.
   
 
The suspects were both black males in their 20’s. One male was wearing a black polo shirt with blue jeans, and the other male was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and red sweatpants. Investigators are seeking the public’s
assistance with identifying the subjects who were captured on video.
