Retail Theft - 11/18/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On October 21, 2024, at approximately 2:21 p.m., a male suspect entered Dick’s Warehouse located at 63 East Marketview Drive in Champaign and headed directly to the footwear department. The male changed out his shoes then grabbed numerous shoes from boxes and filled his backpack. A female accomplice was already in the store and had selected the shoes the male would steal. The male left the store, emptied his backpack into a vehicle, and returned for a second load of shoes. The stolen shoes were valued at over $1,200.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be a black male and black female, approximately 20-30 years old. The male was last seen wearing a white hat, white polo shirt, and black pants. The female had long braided hair and was wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle and Credit Card Fraud - Posted 11/12/24

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle and credit card fraud.
On October 20, 2024, between 2-6 p.m., an unknown suspect stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway. The suspect used the debit/credit cards from the stolen wallet to make purchases in person and online at Dick’s House of Sport, JD Sports, and Nike. The transactions totaled nearly $1,000.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a heavy-set black male, approximately 18-24 years old, with his hair styled in twists. He was last seen wearing a black Nike sweatshirt with an orange/blue Nike logo and light gray distressed jeans.
Theft in the City of Champaign - Posted 11/04/2024

On October 28, 2024, between approximately 1:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., unknown suspects accessed two Bank Champaign ATMs. The first ATM was located at 2101 South Neil Street and the second ATM was at 5 Convenience Center, both in Champaign. Officers learned a large amount of currency was stolen from one of the machines.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be Hispanic males and were driving what appeared to be a white vehicle.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft.
On October 19, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the University of Illinois Police Department responded to a report of a theft from Hunny’s Smoke Shop, 712 South Sixth Street in Champaign. Investigators are requesting assistance identifying the subjects involved.
One subject is described as a black male, thin build, wearing a black hat, grey sweatshirt, and black pants. Another subject is described as a black female with long braids wearing a blue jacket, white shirt, and black pants, and a third as a black female with a long braid wearing a blue jacket, grey pants, and blue and white shoes.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and credit card fraud.
On October 6, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., two suspects stole a wallet from a purse while the victim shopped at Costco, located at 2002 North Neil Street in Champaign. Within minutes the suspects used the victim’s credit cards to purchase a computer and large amounts of gift cards from Best Buy. The fraudulent transactions totaled over $3,300.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be a black female and black male. The female was described as wearing a black hat, white t-shirt, and black sweatpants with a white stripe down the side. The male was described as wearing a white hat, a white long-sleeved shirt, and blue jeans. Both the male and female were wearing masks.
Armed Robbery in Urbana - Posted 10/14/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery
On September 22, 2024, at approximately 8:55 PM, two individuals walked into the Dollar General at 805 N. Lincoln Ave. in Urbana. The two masked males brandished handguns and demanded an employee open the safe. The employee complied and handed the suspects money bags and rolls of coins. The suspects fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency. A K9 track was conducted and stolen coins and a change tray were located in the 1000 block of West Fairview Avenue, the 800 block of North Harvey Street, and in the 1000 block of West Hill St.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as follows:
Subject 1: Slim build black male with a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the front and black pants. He wore a grey facemask and bright blue tennis shoes.
Subject 2: Heavy set black male with a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants with white stripes down the legs. He wore a t-shirt tied around his head and white tennis shoes. He also had multicolored exposed boxer briefs under his pants.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation.
On September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:56 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Holly Hill Drive for a report of shots fired. On-scene, officers located evidence of gunfire, including shell casings and property damage to two homes and a vehicle. A short time later, at 11:18 p.m., a 22-year-old female victim from Champaign arrived at an area hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. She is recovering from her injuries.
The initial investigation indicated the victim was sitting in a vehicle on Holly Hill Drive when an altercation in the area escalated to gunfire from a different vehicle in the roadway. The offending vehicle then fled the area. At this time, it is not known if the victim’s vehicle was the target of the gunfire.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 5:13 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of North Market Street for a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers quickly located a 17-year-old Champaign man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Police and Fire personnel rendered medical aid until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. He is recovering from his injuries.
Investigators learned the young man had been walking along Market Street when he heard several gunshots before realizing he had been wounded. Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery on MTD Bus - Posted 9/23/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery and aggravated battery.
On August 1, 2024, at approximately 12:32 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Clayton Boulevard and Irvine Road for an armed and disorderly subject on an MTD public transportation bus. Officers learned a male armed with a hammer was attempting to fight people. The suspect stole a passenger’s backpack and hit the passenger with the hammer when they tried to take it back. The victim was able to retrieve his backpack before the suspect got off the bus and fled the area. The victim did not require medical attention.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20’s, approximately 5’6” tall and 160 pounds. He was described as wearing a black hoody, dark blue jeans, and black shoes.
Criminal Damage to Foellinger Auditorium - Posted 9/16/24

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding criminal damage that occurred on August 25 at 2:21 AM to Foellinger Auditorium on the U of I campus. Security cameras showed two subjects on the scene wearing black clothing and masks. The subjects were later captured on surveillance cameras walking in the area no longer wearing masks.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects responsible for this incident. The suspects were described as a black male and white male, both wearing all-black clothing. The black male was described as having short to medium length braided hair and black shoes. The white male was described with shorter dark hair and white shoes.
Repair costs to date have exceeded $7,500.
Child Luring Incident in Urbana - Posted 9/9/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a child luring incident.
On September 3, 2024, at approximately 3:55 p.m., Urbana Police responded to the intersection of Kinch Street and Michigan Avenue for a suspicious vehicle report. Officers learned a minor had been dropped off by the school bus and was walking in the area when a male sitting in a black SUV yelled out and offered them candy. The male suspect repeatedly attempted to engage the minor with the proposition of candy. The minor continued walking and the SUV eventually drove away.
Investigators seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect or vehicle involved in this incident. At the time of the interaction, the vehicle was parked in the 2100 block of East Michigan Avenue. The vehicle was described as a black mid-sized SUV, similar to a Chevrolet Equinox or GMC Terrain. There is no description for the male suspect.

Shooting in Urbana - Posted 9/3/2024

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 1:32 a.m., Urbana Police responded to the 1500 block of Hunter Street for a report of a shooting with injuries.
Responding officers learned a physical altercation occurred between a group of individuals outside in the courtyard of the townhouse complex. During the altercation at least one person produced a firearm and fired shots.
Officers located two male victims who had injuries consistent with being shot. One subject had a minor graze wound to the hand area. This victim was treated and released. A 32-year-old male was located with life-threatening gunshot wounds to the leg and torso. Officers provided life saving measures until he could be transported to an area hospital where he underwent surgery. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Suspicious Fires in Rantoul - Posted 8/26/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding suspicious fires.
On August 21, 2024, the Rantoul Fire Department along with the Rantoul Police Department responded to several reports of suspicious fires. At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Roselyn and Bel Aire for a report of two to three juveniles pouring gasoline in the roadway and lighting it on fire. As officers were responding to this initial call, a second incident was reported that juveniles had set a vehicle on fire in the 700 block of Juniper Drive. Additionally, officers were flagged down in the 1100 block of Bel Aire Drive for a report of vehicle tires also set on fire. Another incident occurred in the 1100 block of Briarcliff that involved the yard of a residence on fire.
The Rantoul Police Department is asking residents in these areas to check exterior surveillance camera footage for possible recordings of the individuals responsible for these fires.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation in Champaign.
On July 27 at 3:16 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of West Bradley Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located two 22-year-old female victims with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. One victim was struck in the cheek and hand, and the other victim suffered a graze wound to the leg. Both victims were treated at area hospitals and are recovering from their injuries.
The initial investigation indicates that the victims were attending an impromptu gathering in a parking lot when a yet unknown subject produced a firearm and opened fire.

On July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:09 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to Busey Bank, located at 2011 West Springfield Avenue, for a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned a suspect entered the bank and demanded money while implying he had a firearm. The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male with a medium build, wearing a mask, sunglasses, and a blonde wig. He was last seen wearing a gray hat, black/white women’s shirt, and gray pants.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding two shooting investigations.
Shooting with Injuries – 3900 Block of Colleen Drive
On July 20, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to Champaign Fire Station Three at 702 West Bradley Avenue in Champaign when a vehicle arrived carrying two people with gunshot wounds. Police and Fire personnel rendered medical aid to a 16-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, each with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds to the torso. Both victims are recovering from their injuries.
Officers learned the victims had been driving westbound in the 3700 Block of Colleen Drive when an unknown subject approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking passengers inside. The vehicle then fled the area, calling 9-1-1 for assistance before stopping at the Fire Station to seek immediate medical aid.
Shots Fired – Near Main Street & Fremont Street
On July 20, 2024, at approximately 1:19 a.m., Champaign Police were on an assigned detail near Main Street and Fremont Street when they heard gunshots and moved toward the sound. On-scene, officers located a vehicle carrying a 26-year-old female victim with a non-life-threatening wound to the leg. The victim is recovering from her injuries.
Officers learned a black male wearing a mask and gray hoodie had produced a firearm and opened fire, and the female was injured while fleeing the area of shots fired. A nearby vehicle was damaged by the gunfire.

Shooting Investigation in Champaign - Posted 7/15/24

On July 5, 2024, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to an area hospital after two victims arrived by personal transport with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers learned a 41-year-old male had suffered a potentially life-threatening injury to the abdomen and a 28-year-old female suffered a graze wound. Both victims are recovering from their injuries.
The victims were attending a gathering in the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of E. University Avenue when the male victim and an unknown subject engaged in a verbal altercation. As the altercation quickly escalated, the unknown subject produced a firearm and fired a shot, wounding both victims. The subject then fled the area while the victims were transported to an area hospital for medical assistance.

On arrival, officers located a 25-year-old male victim from Champaign with potentially life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds to the upper leg. The victim is recovering from his injuries.

Armed Robbery in Champaign - Posted 7/1/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery. On June 26, 2024, at approximately 4:25 a.m., a male victim was walking along the sidewalk on North Market Street near the I-74 Overpass when a subject blocked his pathway. The victim walked in the roadway to avoid the subject and the suspect followed, brandished a handgun, and demanded the victim’s phone and backpack. The two males struggled when a vehicle approached, and the victim was able to enter a nearby business. The suspect fled on foot southbound on Market Street. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for this incident. The suspect was described as a younger black male, 5’7” and approximately 130 lbs. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, black shirt, and dark pants.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a criminal damage that occurred within the apartment complex known as the Tower at Third, located at 302 East John Street in Champaign.
On June 4, 2024, at approximately 12:00 AM, an unknown suspect damaged television broadcast equipment housed in the penthouse on the 21st floor of the apartment complex. The damage caused equipment failure and prompted a response from technicians, who in turn notified police. The damaged equipment was valued at more than $50,000.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for this incident.
