Area police are investigating an armed robbery incident in the Campustown area related to an aggravated vehicular hijacking incident. On January 20 at
11:43 pm, five subjects approached a parked BMW sedan in the 500 block of E White Street. One suspect from the group brandished a knife and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.
On January 21 around 1:12 a.m., the vehicle approached an individual in the 100 block of E Chalmers Street. Two occupants exited the vehicle armed with knives, threatened the victim, and demanded his belongings. The vehicle fled the scene and was recovered in the Rantoul area several days later.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest captured on video. The suspects wore all-black clothing and ski masks.
This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and deceptive practices.
On March 19, 2024, police officers responded to Christie Clinic at 101 West University Avenue in Champaign for a reported theft. Upon arrival, officers learned a male suspect entered an office in the clinic at approximately 11:20 a.m. and stole an employee’s wallet and its contents. The employee was later notified oneof the stolen credit cards was used for purchases at Best Buy totaling almost $3,000.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black/white pinstriped Chicago White Sox baseball cap, a black/gray/white long-sleeved shirt, black jeans, and black/white tennis shoes.
On January 18, 2024, at approximately 5:53 p.m., a female entered Schnucks at 109 North Mattis Avenue in Champaign. The female selected numerous items and proceeded to the check-out lanes. The female used a stolen/washed check to pay for the groceries then requested cash back. The female fled the area in an unknown vehicle.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a heavyset white female, approximately 5’10” tall, with red hair and glasses. The female had a black tattoo of an unknown symbol on the back of her neck.
This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.
On January 12, 2024, at 10:43 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 1503 N Neil St. in Champaign for an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned an unknown male came into the gas station armed with a pistol and demanded money. The suspect fled from the store after taking cash and several cartons of cigarettes.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male approximately 30 years of age, wearing a black mask, all-black clothing, and gray shoes.
This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a missing person. Police are seeking information regarding the disappearance of Montel Aker, a male who went missing on August 13, 2011.
Montel had been staying with family friends in the 800 block of Division Ave. in Urbana, but August 13 was the last time family or friends had contact with him. He told family he was going to Rantoul to visit friends in the area of “Falcon Way” or “Pheasant Ridge.” Throughout the investigation, officers learned on the day Montel went missing he had planned to get a tattoo at a home tattoo parlor in the 1200 block of Fairlawn Drive in Rantoul. Montel previously lived in Terre Haute, IN, and he told friends he was considering going to Indianapolis. His family said it’s very unusual for Montel to not have contact with them for even a short period of time. Officers advised there has been no activity on Montel’s social media or financial accounts.
Investigators have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to this case.
This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
On December 17, 2023, at approximately 12:55 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Marcia Drive in Rantoul for a report of a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they located a 25-year-old male with non-life-threatening injuries sustained from gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
Officers learned a subject had been observed jumping a fence and running from the area after the shooting. A search of the scene led to the discovery of spent shell casings in a neighboring yard. Video surveillance identified a possible suspect vehicle leaving the area with no headlights.
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance
This week we’re seeking assistance from the public regarding criminal damage to government- supported property at several locations in the campus area.
On November 27, 2023, at 11:33 pm, an unknown subject went to several locations around the Main Quad (Illini Union, Altgeld Hall, Roger Adams Laboratory, Davenport Hall, Institute for Genomic Biology, Music Building) and damaged them with spray paint. The subject was captured on camera taking pictures of the vandalism after damaging the property. The estimated cost of damages exceeded $2,000.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was wearing a black and white hat, a black and white patterned cloth mask, a dark colored coat with a brown collar, blue jeans, white sneakers, white gloves, and a brown bag.
This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On November 24, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m., a female entered Menards at 620 West Town Center Boulevard in Champaign. The female selected a rotary laser level tool and proceeded to the exit making no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at almost $850.00
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black female, 5’3” to 5’9” tall, with an average build. The female fled in a gray Pontiac Grand Prix.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation in Champaign.
On October 29, 2023, at 4:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the 600-block of S. Third St. in Champaign for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned two college-age females had been injured. One victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and the second victim was treated for minor injuries.
Police are asking any resident or business in the area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured.
On November 25, 2023, between approximately 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., two retail thefts occurred at Meijer, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The first involved two females who shoved a pile of clothes into a backpack. The females fled in a silver vehicle. The second theft involved a female who concealed clothing in a large bag, then tried on a coat and walked out wearing it. The females made no attempt to pay for the stolen merchandise. The total loss was nearly $800.00.
